Incitement, hate crime, deliberate misinformation and conspiracy theories on Social media pose almost unmanageable challenges to justice, criminal research and thus society as a whole. When do we still talk about freedom of expression or when does the question of criminal relevance arise? In the context of automated semantic text analysis and conventional content analysis, this issue has been addressed by the development of a classification scheme for a more detailed characterization of criminally relevant statements on social media. The project “ComRad – Communication Patterns of Radicalisation” was supported by the Anniversary Fund of the City of Vienna.
This paper was presented at the Internationales Rechtsinformatik Symposion on February, 2020, in the city of Salzburg. The paper was the result of cooperation between Bettina Pospisil, Edith Huber (Danube University Krems), Bettina Biron, Gerald Quirchmayr (University of Vienna) and Gerhard Backfried.
