SAIL LABS (now HENSOLDT Analytics)  participated in the 1st Regional ELG Workshop held during the 5th SwissText & 16th KONVENS Joint Conference 2020, on Tue, 23rd June 2020.

SwissText is an annual conference established in 2016 by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) that brings together text analytics experts from industry and academia. KONVENS has been held regularly since 1992 and deals with all areas of natural language processing. This year the two conferences were held together as a single event, gathering practitioners and researchers. An overview of existing solutions and technologies, as well as ideas for new and innovative projects using automatic text understanding were discussed.

During the event, HENSOLDT Analytics` Head of Research, Gerhard Backfried presented the topic “ELG from an industry perspective”. The presentation covered various aspects and trends regarding the LT- and AI markets and how the ELG could provide answers to the challenges caused by a tremendous increase in the demand for language technologies from a European perspective.

The ELG-project addresses the fragmentation of European Language Technologies (LT) by establishing the ELG as the primary platform for LT in Europe. It will produce a scalable cloud platform, providing, in an easy-to-integrate way, access to hundreds of commercial and non-commercial LT for all European languages, including running tools and services as well as data sets and resources.  The project was launched in January 2019 and will continue for 3 years.

SAIL participates in ELG in a variety of ways: as a provider of technologies and models, taking part in communication and dissemination activities and being responsible for innovation management within the project.

*The ELG project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement № 825627 (ELG).
